Greetings Photoion students and photography fans. It’s time again for another Photo of the Month competition!

Every month we hold a competition with a different theme to give you the chance to win £100 in Photoion course vouchers. Competition is open to everyone.

This month’s topic will be Street Photography.

Street Photography can be one of the most powerful forms of photography. It allows you to capture life as raw and realistically as possible, which is why so many of the most important world events have been best captured via street photography.

Here are a few tips to help you take the best images possible:

– Lighting: Light is always important, that we know; but the way you use light in Street Photography can tell an entirely new story. By playing with the contrast of light and shadow, and experimenting with where they fall within your frame, you can add layers of subtext to your images that wouldn’t be possible otherwise.

– Portraits: Portraits are one of the most commons types of street photography, and capturing the images of everyday people – especially during times of great challenge or change – can tell future generations the real story of what life was like during that time.
