It’s time again for another instalment of Student of the Month. Every month we choose a student who has shown real growth and promise and we sit down with them to learn more about their journey in photography. The winner also receives a £50 voucher to be redeemed against any of our courses.

This month we sat down with Gayle Bevan. Here’s what they had to say;

Gayle Bevan

“I started off with my first film camera when I was 18. I had a Ricoh Kr-5.  I loved photographing landscapes but most of all I loved setting up for Portraits. Always on location. So from the age of 18 I was photographing my friends, on location, coordinating colours, outfits, hair and make up etc.

My career (not photography related) kind of took over at the age of 22 so I didn’t seriously pick up a Camera again for 15 years. Then it was another film camera a Minolta 7000. Then in 2004 I bought my  first digital , a Fuji Fine pix. In 2007 I bought my first Nikon , a d5000 then a d7100 and now I own 2x Nikon d750;s with various lenses.

In 2012 I joined a local Camera Club which has helped me to raise my confidence and its great to be amongst like minded people.

During the last two years, I have done several workshops with Ion and the Photography school. I find Ion’s teaching methods to be a fantastic mix of passion, enthusiasm and his knowledge of his craft is outstanding. Which is the reason I keep going back for more. He has helped me to raise my game in Portraiture. Convinced me that I am good at it and therefore I do mostly Portraiture these days.

My aspirations for the future are , to have a studio built in my garden, which is in the planning stages now. To become a really great Portrait Photographer and venture into the world of Boudoir Photography. I love helping people to feel their best and realise their own inner beauty through a beautiful portrait.

Thank you for choosing me as ‘Student of the month’, I am genuinely honoured.
